Sukkah Detroit
Site: Capitol Park
City/State: Detroit, MI
Country: U.S.A
Year: 2018 (SHORTLISTED)
The project has been completed as part of the international competition Sukkah x Detroit which took place September 23-30, 2018 as part of Detroit’s Month of Design. The aim of the competition was to design a creative version of a Sukkah, a tradition Jewish dwelling for prayers. The design starts from the ‘Sky pattern’ created on the roof and projected on the floor through an interior fabric installation that visually bring the sky inside. The Light is the protagonist of the design. The interior changes during the day and the semi-transparent fabric installation disappear in the night when the dwellers can see the sky through the holes of the roof patter. The architecture is consistent with the traditional sukkah but at the same time is able to shape a space where the elements are not the protagonists but they become the tools for celebrating the beauty of Nature through an Architecture.
